Wallpaper design

Finally got to grips with creating an offset repeat on Photoshop. This monochrome repeat is a wallpaper length 52cm wide by 159cm long. The black deer silhouettes are striking against the busy mushroom background. Certainly one of my favourites so far, however for further development I might add a tartan in the deer silhouettes...

Screen printing

I have really enjoyed developing my ideas for wallpapers in the print rooms this week. For both of these colour ways I have painted the backgrounds with emulsion, used gold metallic binder for the birds silhouette and grey pigment for the birds features. The red background has proven to be thd most successful so I'll be developing that further. However, I also think this design could be used on gift products as well.

So, after being offered a work placement with Hallmark in May I now know gift is the area I'd like to work in and develop my skills further. However for now I'm doing an exciting interiors project where I'll be making a range of wallpaper designs.

This is my work bay so far with my whimsical research and drawing sheets...

Fabric Samples For Fashion

So these are my final fabric samples for fashion. They are based on geometric forms taken from drawings in my sketchbook that have been modified on photoshop. The 2 techniques I have used are digital print and screen printing which I have combined to produce these unique prints for mens fashion. The colour scheme is very monochrome but with the use of embroidery using a luminous yellow thread will add a dash of colour.

Today I was...

Today I experimented with pull through's!
Never done this ever so it could have gone very badly, but that's the fun about experimenting. So I begun by making a pigment paste in the dye lab and pulling it through a clear silk screen with a squeegee onto paper, basically making a mess (mark making). After cleaning the screen I used procion dyes mixed with manutex paste applying the same process again but this time on to different types of cotton fabric.
The end result was a success! Mark making at its best...

CCAD's freshers fair

Had such a good day at CCAD's freshers fair! Sold some one off pieces that I'll be sad to see go but I'm sure they are going to good homes. Met some lovely people and made some new contacts, overall good experience. Here's my little stall...
