Professional Studies. Week 4 - The Design Meeting. 15/10/13

Week 4 in Professional Studies was all about meeting clients to discuss/sell work. When I thought of a client I assumed it was one person/ business person, someone very important and someone you had to impress. I soon learnt that a client can be interior designers/ design companies to magazines and stylists. Basically anyone/  company in the textiles industry!

So first of all a portfolio is a must when potentially selling work. It should be professionally presented and a little bit of enthusiasm will go a long way...

I can imagine doing this for the first time would be scary but being organised should help a lot. A key thing to remember is always keep in mind what the client wants, at the end of the day they are the ones buying the work. However stay confident and patient, they may want you to make amendments to your designs and its up to you how you deal with this. Will I charge extra for my time? Or will I stick to my grounds and say no?...
Something to definitely think about before a business meeting.

TASK:
  • Research textile designers
  • Start thinking about report topics
Surfacephilia

I really like the work designed by Surfacephilia. These products I picked out below are hand drawn with digital aspects. The composition is lovely and I love the layering aspect on the feather card. They have so many more lovely and inspiring products on their website, I will definitely be looking here again for research when I come to do my Gift design project...

Jessica Hogarth.

Jessica Hogarth is a freelance surface pattern and textiles designer based in North Yorkshire. Her website is just lovely and I just love her quirky prints. She has a simplistic; linier style quite similar to myself. Her prints are inspiring me in my own studio work...
