Professional Studies. Week 7 - Trade Shows and Sales Paperwork. 5/11/2013.

Week 7 in Professional Studies we were discussing trade shows and the relevant paperwork needed to enable you to have a stall...

Trade shows are a great way to get your work seen, make contacts and start networking.

Designs are often in garment shapes or rectangular samples i.e A3/A2/A1 etc. Depending on what designs you are selling will depend on where you will sell, paper samples will be different to fabric samples.

Buyers will be looking for certain things when looking at designs. The might look for colour, repeat, placement prints, samples ect. You need to make sure all work is referenced, presented and labelled correctly.

Important things to remember when working on a stand are:

  • Display - work, stand, yourself
  • Branding
  • Packaging
  • Organisation
  • Verbal communication skills
  • Realistic timescales (makers)
  • Retail/wholesale prices
  • Marketing and promotion
  • Customer awareness and empathy
  • Paperwork. i.e business cards/ invoices/ receipts/ order forms/ price lists etc.
Trade shows are very expensive and funding may be an options...

  • North East Access to Finance
  • Northumberland Buisness Service Ltd.
  • UKTI
  • Princes Trust
  • Crafts Council
  • Arts Council, England
